Nakhon Pathom – A 13-year-old boy who was helping relatives sell chestnuts at the Rai Khing temple fair was electrocuted when he touched a metal fence behind the stall and later died at the hospital. Police from Sam Phran Station are urgently investigating the true cause and have summoned related individuals for questioning.
At 16:00 on 14 October 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanon Yangnok, Deputy Chief Investigator of Sam Phran Police Station, acting chief of the station in Nakhon Pathom, received a report from Sam Phran Hospital of a person electrocuted and admitted to the hospital who later died. Upon receiving the report, he informed his superiors and proceeded to investigate at Sam Phran Hospital.
The victim was identified as Tharathon Jamsri, 13 years old, a Grade 7 student at a school in Kanchanaburi Province, living in Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi. The body showed severe burn marks around the torso, with a long burn mark on the abdomen. Preliminary medical examination confirmed death by electrocution.
Investigators then went to the scene behind the chestnut stall at the Rai Khing temple fair in Sam Phran District. Inspection revealed a metal fence about 80 cm high at the back of the stall, with a tent pole tied with a rope and electrical wiring running from the pole to the fence. Burnt wires were found on the ground near the fence wall, and photographs were taken as evidence.
Witnesses reported the incident occurred around 12:30. The victim was climbing over the back wall, likely to get something to eat. While climbing, there was a loud cry as the electric current shocked his body, causing smoke and a fall. Although still breathing, locals ran to help but were afraid of being shocked themselves. They called for the electrical equipment owner to switch off the power and notified the Pran Phitak Sam Phran Foundation to help take him to Sam Phran Hospital.
Initial investigation revealed that Tharathon was a relative of the chestnut stall owner, who hired him to help sell at the annual Rai Khing temple fair during school break. At the time of the incident, the owner was away getting food, leaving Tharathon with another nephew. Tharathon told the nephew to stay in front of the stall before going out the back to get something to eat. While walking out the back, a loud cry of 'Ouch! I got shocked!' was heard. The nephew ran to help but was also shocked and quickly withdrew his hand, then called others for assistance until the power switch was turned off. They then helped transport him by rescue vehicle to Sam Phran Hospital.
Police are conducting a detailed investigation into the true cause of death, whether it came from high-voltage wiring connected to the fair or wiring installed by the stall owner. The Electricity Authority is also involved in the inspection. The stall owner and the person responsible for connecting the electrical wiring to the fair have been summoned for questioning to clarify facts and proceed with legal action.
