Police Maintain Tight Security as Anti-World Bank-IMF Protesters Settle at Rama IV Intersection

Police have established tight security after a group protesting the IMF–World Bank meeting gathered and headed toward the Queen Sirikit Convention Center before settling at the Rama IV Intersection to conduct activities.

On 15 October 2026 at 09:00, reports indicated that a network of protesters opposing the World Bank and IMF gathered and marched on foot from Narong Five-Way Intersection toward the Queen Sirikit Convention Center to protest the 2026 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings hosted by Thailand at the National Convention Center, which attracts many high-level international representatives.

The protesters carried signs and posted demands on a pedestrian bridge as symbolic opposition to the meeting.

Upon reaching Rama IV Intersection, police from Tha Ruea Metropolitan Police Station blocked the march, displayed warning signs, and read out public assembly regulations, firmly ordering the network not to proceed to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Meanwhile, the protesters insisted on using that route toward their goal.

This led to negotiations, after which the protesters decided to camp at the intersection, awaiting their negotiation team to discuss and bargain again with police. The protesters continue to affirm their intention to proceed to the notified assembly location at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

Police have tightened security to maintain safety and announced road closures from Asoke Montri Intersection (Sukhumvit Road) to Rama IV Intersection on 15–16 October 2026.

Recommended alternative routes

  • Rama IV Road and Sukhumvit Road
  • Witthayu Road and Sarasin Road
  • Use BTS/MRT transit and allow extra travel time
