Weather Today, 17 Oct: Heavy Rain in Some Areas, Beware of Flash Floods and Mudslides

The Meteorological Department reports that on 17 October 2026, heavy rain will continue in some areas, while Bangkok has thunderstorms over 60% of its area.

On 16 October 2026, the websiteMeteorological Departmentissued the daily weather forecast from 06:00 today until 06:00 tomorrow.

General weather conditions

The 24-hour forecast indicates that the central, eastern, and southern regions will still experience heavy rain in some areas. Residents there should be cautious of dangers from thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, heavy rain, and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and mudslides, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands.

This is due to a weak high-pressure system or cool air mass covering upper northern, upper northeastern regions, and the South China Sea, resulting in easterly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture from the South China Sea over Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

For the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, areas with thunderstorms will have waves higher than 2 meters. Mariners should check their routes and navigate with caution, avoiding areas with thunderstorms.

From 18 to 20 October 2026, the southern and eastern regions will experience continuous rain with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places. From 21 to 25 October 2026, the lower northeastern region, central region, Bangkok and vicinity, eastern region, and upper southern region will see increased rain with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas accompanied by strong gusty winds.

This is because the monsoon trough will initially pass through the lower southern region along with the southwest monsoon covering the lower Andaman Sea. Later, the trough will shift northward over the upper southern region, upper Gulf of Thailand, and eastern region, while the high-pressure system or cool air mass from China will extend over the upper northern, upper northeastern regions, and the South China Sea.

At this time, people are advised to closely follow weather updates and be alert to dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and mudslides.
