The Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is preparing to propose to the Cabinet this Tuesday a request to expand the budget for flood relief by an additional 10.508 billion baht.
On 18 October 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, disclosed after inspecting water management conditions in Suphanburi Province with a delegation led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul that normally, relief funds are not included in the annual budget system. Instead, the government reserves a central contingency budget for emergencies or unforeseen incidents.
The central budget used for this relief effort was approved by the government under Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul from the final budget of fiscal year 2026. The Cabinet passed a resolution on 29 September 2026 GMT+7 allocating 4.7 billion baht to assist people affected by floods in 66 provinces and Bangkok while the disaster was ongoing.
This approach provides urgent relief and assistance without waiting for the disaster to end first. The government aims for quick disbursement of relief funds so people can reduce their hardships and maintain basic living conditions.
The calculation was based on the number of households reported by Bangkok and various provinces as of 29 September 2026 GMT+7, multiplied by 9,000 baht. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation acts according to actual data from Bangkok and provinces. If funds are insufficient, additional central budget requests for fiscal year 2027 may be submitted to the Cabinet based on facts and necessity. The Department affirms there have been no omissions or delays.
Mr. Nirat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, added that the funds allocated previously from fiscal year 2026 were for urgent assistance. The Prime Minister clearly stated from the beginning that if damages increase and funds are insufficient, the Department can immediately request additional budget approval so that all affected areas receive comprehensive relief.
On Tuesday, 20 October 2026 GMT+7, the Department will present this matter to the Cabinet to request an additional 10.508 billion baht for 1,481,401 households, using the central budget of fiscal year 2027 (the current year). Once approved, the Department will transfer the funds to Government Savings Bank, which will then disburse relief payments to the people based on data from Bangkok and provinces, following the established criteria, as quickly as possible.
