Meteorological Department Issues 5th Warning Expanding Rainfall Alerts to Several Eastern and Central Provinces Including Bangkok

The Meteorological Department issued its 5th bulletin expanding rainfall warnings to several provinces in the eastern and central regions, including Bangkok. In the southern region, four provinces are under increased watch for "very heavy rain." The public is advised to avoid traveling through areas at risk of flash floods.

On 19 October 2026, the Meteorological Department's website released the 5th bulletin warning of heavy to very heavy rain over Thailand. It stated that from 19-20 October 2026, the southern and eastern regions will experience continuous rain with some areas seeing heavy to very heavy rain. From 21-25 October 2026, the lower northeastern region, central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, the eastern region, and upper southern region will see increased rainfall, with some areas experiencing heavy to very heavy rain and occasional strong gusty winds.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to be cautious of dangers from strong gusty winds, heavy to very heavy rainfall, and continuous accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides. Especially vulnerable are foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. People should avoid traveling through frequently flooded routes, particularly lowlands prone to waterlogging.

This situation is due to the monsoon trough initially passing over the lower southern region, combined with the southwest monsoon covering the lower Andaman Sea. Later, the monsoon trough will shift over the central southern region, while high pressure or cold air masses from China will extend over the upper northern region, upper northeastern region, and South China Sea.

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand areas experiencing thunderstorms are expected to exceed 3 meters in height. Mariners in these seas should navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms.

For safety and to minimize potential impacts, the public is advised to plan their activities and travel carefully during this period. Citizens should continuously follow updates and announcements from the Meteorological Department, which are available on their website.http://www.tmd.go.thOr contact 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours a day.

. The "Meteorological Department" Facebook page posted that the Meteorological Department issued its 5th bulletin at 5:00 a.m., adjusting the forecast areas for heavy rain on 19 October from the previous announcement as follows.

Very heavy rain warnings increased for four southern provinces.

  • Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, and Phang Nga.

Heavy rain warnings expanded to additional areas.

  • Central region including Bangkok and its vicinity.
  • Eastern region including Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
  • In the southern region, the list of provinces and rain severity levels were adjusted from the previous bulletin.

For 20–25 October, the list of provinces expected to be affected by heavy and very heavy rain remains the same as in the 4th bulletin.

The public is urged to continuously monitor weather forecasts and announcements from the Meteorological Department, especially in areas with accumulated rainfall, to be cautious of flash floods, forest runoff, and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

It should be noted that listing provinces expected to be affected does not imply heavy rain will cover every part of those provinces.
