Chao Phraya Dam Water Release Reduced to 1,700 Cubic Meters per Second as Upstream Water Levels Continue to Fall

The Royal Irrigation Department has begun reducing water discharge downstream of the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province from 1,800 to 1,700 cubic meters per second to ease flooding below the dam.

On 20 October 2026 at 06:00, reports showed water flow at station C.2 in Nakhon Sawan Province at 1,466 cubic meters per second, while station Ct.19 on the Sakae Krang River in Uthai Thani Province recorded 100 cubic meters per second. The Chao Phraya Dam was releasing water at 1,800 cubic meters per second, with upstream water level at +15.75 meters above mean sea level, showing a continuing downward trend to align water management with the situation.

The Royal Irrigation Department will gradually reduce water discharge downstream of the Chao Phraya Dam starting at 08:00, lowering the rate by approximately 15 cubic meters per second each hour from 1,800 to 1,700 cubic meters per second by 15:00 today, maintaining this rate thereafter to help decrease flooding in low-lying areas along the Chao Phraya River downstream.

Meanwhile, water system management continues alongside accelerated drainage of accumulated water in affected areas. Coordination with local agencies supports deployment of pumps, water pushers, and personnel to assist residents continuously, aiming to enhance drainage efficiency and minimize impacts on downstream areas as much as possible.

However, despite the downward trend in upstream water volume, close monitoring of rainfall remains essential, especially in lower central Thailand, Bangkok, and its vicinity, where heavy rain is possible between 20 and 23 October. The Royal Irrigation Department remains prepared with machinery, equipment, and staff, tracking rainfall and water levels continuously to adjust water management appropriately and prevent worsening flood conditions in affected areas.

The Royal Irrigation Department pledges to expedite water discharge and assist residents still affected by flooding fully. It urges people living along the Chao Phraya River and in low-lying areas to stay updated with official water situation announcements continuously.
