Body of 5-Month-Old Infant Found Floating in Chao Phraya River 1 km from Home After Mother Reports Child Missing at Night

The body of a 5-month-old infant was found floating in the Chao Phraya River about 1 kilometer from the home after the mother reported the child missing late at night. It is suspected the infant fell from the house during flooding. Police have summoned the mother and grandmother for further questioning and had the mother swear an oath before the deity Thao Wessuwan.

On 24 October 2026, it was reported that at approximately 19:00 on 23 October, Lieutenant Thitikorn Julwanich, deputy investigator of Bang Pa-in Police Station in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, received a report of an infant's body floating in the Chao Phraya River in Ban Len subdistrict, Bang Pa-in district, and coordinated officials to investigate.

At the scene, the body of a 5-month-old infant nicknamed “Nong Lookkaew” was found. The mother had reported the child missing around 23:00 on the night of 22 October. The body was found approximately one kilometer from the child's residence.

Investigation revealed that the child's home is located riverside in Village 8, Ban Len subdistrict, Bang Pa-in district, in an area affected by flooding. Before the incident, the mother suspected the child might have fallen from the bed into the water, so she reported to police and requested assistance from the Phutthaisawan Foundation to search with equipment and personnel since midnight, but the child was not found until the body was reported in the river that evening.

Ms. Charanya, 36, the child's mother, said that at about 23:00 on 22 October, she put her child to bed after feeding milk until asleep, then she also fell asleep. Later, her mother called after hearing a child crying. Upon waking and checking, she found the child missing from the bed and noticed the mosquito net was torn, leading her to suspect the child had fallen into the water.

The mother added that their home is beside the Chao Phraya River, where the floodwaters had risen about one meter, flooding inside the house. She had raised the bed to near window level but remains uncertain how the child left the bed area despite checking around the house.

Before questioning, the investigator had the mother raise her hand and swear an oath before the statue of Thao Wessuwan, located in the interview room, to affirm she would tell the complete truth about the incident to assist the investigation and fact-finding.

Initially, Bang Pa-in police have summoned both the mother and grandmother for additional questioning to gather full details of the events from before the child's disappearance to when the body was found, as well as to examine evidence and address any remaining uncertainties.

Authorities have not yet concluded the cause of death and await forensic examination results to clarify the facts of how the child died and the circumstances leading to the body being found in the Chao Phraya River.
