A call center gang has relocated from Tachileik to Mong Hsat, about 200–250 kilometers from the Chiang Rai border, after Myanmar troops raided a corrugated metal structure and arrested 99 Chinese suspects, seizing a large amount of key evidence.
On 24 Oct 2026 in Chiang Rai province, reporters cited local Myanmar media reports stating that the Myanmar military government issued a statement summarizing their crackdown on transnational gray-market groups. Following intensive suppression of call center and online gambling gangs, criminals moved their operations from Tachileik to Mong Hsat district in eastern Shan State, an area under the influence of the United Wa State Army (UWSA). This location is approximately 200–250 kilometers from Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai, bordering the western side near Fang and Mae Ai districts in Chiang Mai province.
Following investigations by Myanmar authorities, it was found that the Kyat Hpyaing gang, a Chinese call center group, had secretly established an operational base on the outskirts of Mong Hsat. Myanmar officials then deployed forces to conduct a raid on 21 Oct 2026.
At around 16:30 on the same day, officials raided a corrugated metal building located northeast, about 3,600 meters from the town of Mong Twan in Mong Hsat district.
The raid resulted in the arrest of 99 Chinese suspects (95 men and 4 women) and the seizure of key evidence: 13 all-in-one computers, 193 mobile phones, 2 Starlink satellite receivers, 23 desks, and 92 chairs.
Additionally, Myanmar authorities expanded their crackdown by raiding nearby Hopong village in Lai-Hka district, arresting 3 more Chinese call center gang members. These individuals are currently under investigation for prosecution and will be repatriated to their home country.
