Rescue Boat Collides with Longtail Boat at Bang Phli Lotus Receiving Festival, Passengers Injured

A water accident occurred A "rescue boat" collided violently with a "longtail boat" in the Samrong Canal in front of the Ancient Floating Market during the Bang Phli Lotus Receiving Festival. The boats were damaged and passengers injured.

On 25 Oct 2026, a dramatic water accident was reported at the Bang Phli Lotus Receiving Festival in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province. A rescue team’s boat collided heavily with a local longtail boat in the Samrong Canal, resulting in injuries to a passenger who suffered a cut near the eyebrow. Both boats were damaged, while the rescue personnel were unharmed.

Locals boating in the canal captured footage showing the moment the rescue team’s boat, on standby for festival safety, attempted to change direction into the right lane. At the same time, a local longtail boat was traveling in the opposite direction in that same right lane.

When the longtail boat’s driver saw the rescue boat approaching closely, he tried to avoid it. However, since the rescue boat had already entered the canal’s right lane, a violent head-on collision occurred, injuring a passenger on the longtail boat.

Investigation revealed Mr. Natthapong Butnoi, 28, an independent rescue volunteer, was driving the rescue boat, which cut in front and collided with the longtail boat driven by Mr. Anan Yodin, 33. Passenger Mr. Suwat Sudgran, 33, sustained a head wound and a cut eyebrow. The incident took place in Samrong Canal in front of the Ancient Floating Market at Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai, Bang Phli Yai Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province.

Mr. Natthapong explained the accident occurred at a curved bridge near the Bang Phli Floating Market intersection. He was conducting a low-speed survey to prepare for the Luang Pho To parade, carefully observing and clearing the area before turning back into the right lane. However, he suddenly encountered the other boat directly. Since the boat lacked brakes like a car and the incident happened quickly, the collision could not be avoided.

After the collision, the rescue team promptly docked alongside the other boat to prevent it from leaking or sinking. They immediately provided first aid to the injured passenger, transported him to the hospital, and filed an official report at the police station. Initial discussions and agreements were made with the injured party.

Regarding legal proceedings, both parties await a summons from the Samut Prakan Marine Department for investigation to determine the true cause and proceed according to the law.
