Meteorological Department Issues 6th Alert Warning of Heavy to Very Heavy Rain in Southern and Upper Thailand

The Meteorological Department issued its 6th announcement warning of heavy to very heavy rain in southern Thailand and unstable weather in upper Thailand. It advises checking the list of provinces expected to be affected and to remain alert for flash floods and mountain runoff.

26 Oct 2026 GMT+7Meteorological DepartmentIssued Announcement No. 6 regarding heavy to very heavy rain in southern Thailand and unstable weather in upper Thailand, stating that During 26–28 Oct 2026 GMT+7, southern Thailand will experience continuous rainfall with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some locations. The public is urged to beware of dangers from accumulated rain that may cause flash floods and mountain runoff, especially in foothill areas near watercourses and low-lying areas, which may experience waterlogging.

Meanwhile, on 26–27 Oct 2026 GMT+7, upper Thailand will have unstable weather characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, heavy rain, and possible lightning in some places. The Northeast will be affected first, followed by the North, Central regions including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the East. The public should be cautious of thunderstorms, strong gusts, and avoid staying in open areas, under large trees, or unsecured billboards.

This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass spreading from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing easterly winds to bring moisture from the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand over upper Thailand, while the monsoon trough passing through the South strengthens.

In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, areas with thunderstorms will have waves higher than 2 meters. Boaters in these waters should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in stormy areas.

For safety and to minimize possible impacts, the public is advised to plan their activities and travel carefully during this period and to continuously follow updates from the Meteorological Department.
