Tourists Impressed by Over 30 Brydes Whales Swimming in the Gulf of Thailand

Tourists were deeply impressed after spotting a pod of Bryde's whales. Over 30 whales were seen swimming in the Gulf of Thailand off Phetchaburi Province.

On 27 Oct 2026 GMT+7, reporters stated that tourists captured impressive images while on a boat trip nearly two hours offshore in K. Kai Bay, Phetchaburi. They encountered a large pod of around 30 Bryde's whales swimming and scooping fish closely in that area, creating an astonishing scene.

Bryde's whales are characterized by a dorsal fin curved toward the tail, a horizontally aligned tail fin with a central notch, pointed front fins, and relatively coarse baleen plates. They are endangered and protected under the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act of 2019, which bans international trade of Bryde's whales.

In Thailand, Bryde's whales inhabit the Gulf of Thailand and are found in nearly all coastal provinces, most commonly in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan. They have gray-black streamlined bodies with scattered white spots under the chin and neck. Some have faint stripes on their backs or light gray spotted patterns similar to white tiger stripes. At sea, three prominent ridges on the top of the snout are noticeable.
