Phuket Municipality Uses Suan Luang Rama IX Park as a Flood Detention Basin to Prepare for Continuous Rain and High Tides

"Phuket Municipality" Accelerates water management using Suan Luang Rama IX Park as a flood detention basin to prepare for continuous rain and high tides, with continuous overnight monitoring.

At 9:00 p.m. on 28 October 2026, reporters reported that Phuket Municipality is intensifying water management in flood-prone areas by using Suan Luang Rama IX Park as a flood detention basin to retain and slow water flow. Water pumps have been installed to enhance drainage efficiency in preparation for ongoing rain and high tides. Officials are closely monitoring water levels throughout the night to minimize impact on local residents.

Supachok Laongphet, Mayor of Phuket Municipality, visited the area to oversee water management around Tha Krang Canal and Suan Luang Rama IX Park, critical points for receiving water from the East and West Chaofa areas and Central intersection before draining through Tha Krang Canal, which faces drainage limitations, especially during high tides that may slow water flow.

Phuket Municipality has prepared to use Suan Luang Rama IX Park as a flood detention basin to hold and delay water, reducing the volume flowing into inner areas. They have installed water pumps supported by Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization to accelerate water flow into the detention basin, improving water management efficiency during periods of high accumulation.

Additionally, officials from Phuket Municipality and water pump stations will continuously monitor the situation overnight until morning, tracking water levels and reassessing the situation after the peak high tide around midnight. A red alert warning remains in effect until further evaluation.

Meanwhile, residents in risk areas are urged to closely follow warning announcements, prepare by moving belongings to higher ground, and follow official instructions to stay ready for potentially changing conditions.
