Heavy Clashes Continue on Myanmar Side Mae Sot Residents Flee Amid Bombing Fears, Thai Troops Hold Border and Close Bridge

Heavy fighting continues on the Myanmar side. Mae Sot residents are alarmed by bombing sounds and scramble to find shelter, fearing stray fire. Thai soldiers remain firmly stationed and patrol the entire border line, ordering the closure of crossing bridges and preparing to suspend goods transportation along the border.

Reporters describe ongoing combat in Myanmar on 30 Oct 2026 at Min La Pan and Pa Lu Noi villages in Myawaddy township, Karen state, Myanmar, opposite Mahawan subdistrict, Mae Sot district, Tak province. Myanmar military has conducted 2-3 bombing runs targeting Karen forces.

Additionally, both sides engaged in firefights with small arms, causing shop owners near Ban Mae Kon Gen School to seek cover. Local motorcycle riders hurriedly fled to safer areas, holding their heads protectively.

Mrs. Somsri, a resident of Village No. 4, Mahawan subdistrict, Mae Sot, said she has endured hardship for over a year, sleeping fitfully due to gunfire and having to run for cover. She fears stray bullets from firearms might land on her home.

The Rachamanu Task Force of the Naresuan Task Force continues to hold the border along the Myanmar side, deploying patrols to safeguard civilians. So far, no stray bullets have crossed into Thai territory.

Furthermore, Major General Prasan Henprasert, commander of the Naresuan Task Force, coordinated with Mae Sot Customs to suspend approval of goods transport at relaxation points from under the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1 at Rim Moei village, Tha Sai Luat subdistrict, Mae Sot district, southward toward the conflict zone opposite Min La Pan village and Mahawan subdistrict, including Chong Khaeb village, Chong Khaeb subdistrict, and Wa Lei village, Wa Lei subdistrict, Phop Phra district, for seven days or until the fighting subsides.

Meanwhile, in Phop Phra district, the Naresuan Task Force has closed all crossing points at Lower and Upper Wa Lei villages, Wa Lei subdistrict. The bridges previously used by Myanmar residents to cross over and buy Thai goods have also been closed.
