Voices from Prachinburi residents say they refuse to attend the "Fish Eating Invitation" event, sharply noting that the acting governor is clever to choose Prachantakham—the only district without factories 105 and 106—and challenge them to hold it in Srimahaphot, Srimochot, or Bansang districts instead.
On 1 November 2026, Mr. Chanathip Khokmanee, acting governor of Prachinburi, together with the Prachinburi Provincial Agricultural Council and heads of provincial departments, invited the public to join the "Fish Eating Invitation" event to build confidence that Prachinburi fish are safe to eat. The event will be held at Ban Ko Yang, Village 9, Pho Ngam Subdistrict, Prachantakham District (near Huai Khue Intersection) on Monday, 2 November 2026 at 5:00 p.m. This activity aims to reassure that fish in Prachinburi have been inspected and are safe to consume normally, having passed checks by the Department of Fisheries.
Preliminary details reveal that the Prachinburi Provincial Agricultural Council will have local fishermen from Ban Ko Yang, Village 9, Pho Ngam Subdistrict, use fishing equipment to catch fish in the area. The caught fish will then be freshly cooked and eaten to demonstrate that the fish are safe to eat, as previously reported.
Recently, reporters interviewed about 200 residents from Srimahaphot and Srimochot districts who gathered holding protest signs on the road leading to an industrial factory that has issues with rainbow-colored residue floating around the factory and spreading to several areas.
Mr. Prachuap Naphaeng, a former village headman, said that vendors at Pruewai Market still cannot sell fish. He himself does not eat fish because he does not know where the fish come from and is unwilling to take the risk. Most fish in Prachinburi are staple food for locals, but he refuses to eat them—even if steamed well—because chemicals have been found in fish flesh. He asked, "How can you eat fish when chemicals are detected in the meat?" He added he will not attend the deputy governor's invitation to eat fish tomorrow. Normally he buys fish at the market, but now he dares not eat it, no matter how big the fish or how much is offered.
Ms. Porn said that regarding the fish-eating event, she would say that Deputy Governor Chanathip is smart to choose Prachantakham district because it is the only district without factories 105 and 106. But she questioned that if the event were held in Srimahaphot or Srimochot districts, where rainbow-colored residue has contaminated river fish and the Pollution Control Department or Facebook have reported chemical contamination in the fish flesh, would the deputy governor dare to organize the event there? Holding it in Prachantakham shows he is clever, she concluded.
