Meteorological Department Issues 5th Warning: Unstable Weather in Upper Thailand and Heavy Rain in the South with Possible Flash Floods

The Meteorological Department issued its 5th warning about unstable weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rain in the southern region. It listed affected provinces and urged vigilance for heavy rain that may cause flash floods and mountain runoff in the area.

On 3 October 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued a bulletin titled: Unstable Weather in Upper Thailand and Heavy to Very Heavy Rain in the Southern Region, Bulletin No. 5.

It stated that from 5 to 7 November 2026, upper Thailand will experience unstable weather characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain in some areas. The northeastern region will be affected first, followed by the north, central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region. The public is advised to be cautious of dangers from thunderstorms and strong gusts, and avoid staying in open spaces, under large trees, or near unstable advertising signs.

From 7 to 9 November 2026, the southern region will see increased rainfall with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some locations. Residents should be careful of accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and mountain runoff, especially in hillside areas near waterways and lowland zones.

This is due to a high-pressure system or another cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, resulting in stronger easterly winds covering Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, especially in areas with thunderstorms, will be over 2 meters high. Mariners in these areas should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in regions experiencing thunderstorms.

For safety and to reduce possible impacts, the public is advised to plan their activities and travel carefully during this period. They should continuously follow announcements from the Meteorological Department and can access information via the department's website.http://www.tmd.go.thor by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.
