Bangkok Prepares for Heavy Rain from 5-9 Nov, 50 Districts on 24-Hour Alert with Water Pumps Installed Along Royal Barge Procession Route

Bangkok is preparing to handle heavy rain on 6 November as forecasted by the Meteorological Department, ordering 50 districts to remain on 24-hour alert and installing water pumps at key points along the Royal Barge Procession route.

On 3 November, Mr. Chatchaya Khamchan, Deputy Director of the Drainage Office, said that the Meteorological Department has issued a warning from 5-7 November about unstable weather in upper Thailand, with thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy rain in some areas. The northeastern region will be affected first, followed by the north, central region, including Bangkok and its metropolitan area, the eastern region, and the south. Rainfall will increase with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some locations from 5-9 November.

Regarding Bangkok, the Drainage Office has been continuously monitoring the situation and alerts from the Meteorological and Hydrological Departments. Forecasts indicate heavy rain will hit Bangkok on 6 November. Personnel, staff, equipment, and drainage machinery have been prepared and are on standby with 24-hour monitoring. Water levels in canals and ponds have been lowered to accommodate rainfall. Coordination with all 50 districts has been made to closely monitor the situation to prevent a repeat of past flooding events.

The Deputy Director added that on 6 November, during the Royal Barge Procession ceremony, water pumps will be installed at key locations where the public will gather to welcome the royal procession. Inspections of the procession route have found everything in order. Although this rain event is not expected to heavily impact Bangkok, vigilance is necessary to ensure the public is protected from any inconvenience.
