Phra Boonsin Prepares to Return to Duty as Advisor to the Army Commander on 1 Dec 2026

'Phra Boonsin' is preparing to leave monastic life and return to duty on 1 Dec 2026, resuming his role as Advisor to the Commander of the Royal Thai Army.

On 5 Nov 2026, reporters reported that 'Phra Boonsin' also known among locals as 'Phra Mae Thap Kung' (Mother General Kung), is preparing to disrobe in late November 2026 after ordaining and studying Buddhist teachings at Wat Pa Sri Khunaram in Udon Thani Province, before returning to serve as Advisor to the Commander of the Royal Thai Army starting 1 Dec 2026.

During his time as a monk, Phra Boonsin studied and practiced Buddhist teachings, shared the Dhamma with laypeople, contributed to the temple and local community, and dedicated merit to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect national sovereignty during the Thai-Cambodian border clashes.

Another key activity in November includes ascetic walking retreats scheduled by the temple on 8, 18, and 22 Nov 2026. These retreats involve training in perseverance, restraint of body, speech, and mind, and learning to live simply according to Buddhist principles. The retreats are not merely physical journeys but also spiritual practices to develop patience, reduce attachments, and reflect on life's values through meditation, aligning with teachings aimed at inner peace and benefiting others.

Before disrobing, Phra Boonsin intends to pay respects to his revered teachers to express gratitude, continue Buddhist activities with Luang Pu Sila Sirichanto, and plans to visit soldiers along the southern Isan border—especially areas where he once commanded combat operations—to meet, encourage, and bless the troops, reflecting the enduring bond between commander and subordinates who never abandon one another.
