Tragic Death of 2-Year-Old Boy Who Followed Caregiver to Collect Scrap, Fell into Water Pool in Sattahip

A tragic incident occurred when a 2-year-old boy following his caregiver to collect scrap for sale fell into a water pool in Sattahip, Chonburi Province. Bystanders tried to help but could not save his life.

At 18:30 on 7 Nov 2016, Lt. Anuphan Hongkiatkajorn, deputy investigation officer of Sattahip Police Station, received a report of a child drowning death in a private water pool at Noen Samakkhi Community, Village No. 3, Bang Sare Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. He and rescuers from Sawang Rojanatham Sattahip Foundation rushed to the scene.

The scene was a roadside water pool about 4 meters wide and 1.3 meters deep. Pink children's shoes floated on the water surface at both ends. The victim, a 2-year-old boy named Sun, was submerged in the pool. Mr. Natthaphon, 48, the caregiver, and bystanders rescued him unconscious and performed CPR but could not save him due to prolonged submersion.

Mr. Natthaphon, the caregiver, said they left their home together to collect scrap for sale. While searching through scrap, Sun, who was walking behind, disappeared. They searched until bystanders found him drowned in the water pool.

Lt. Anuphan took photographs and recorded the scene as evidence and summoned witnesses for questioning. The body was sent by rescue workers to Sattahip Hospital Km.10 for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
