Meteorological Department Issues No. 14: Rain Decreases in Upper Thailand but Thunderstorms Persist Southern Region Sees Increased Rainfall on 8-9 Nov

The Meteorological Department's announcement No. 14 states that rain has decreased in upper Thailand but thunderstorms may still occur in some areas, mostly in the western parts of the North and Central regions. The public is urged to be cautious of thunderstorm hazards.

8 Nov 2026 GMT+7Meteorological Department websiteAnnouncement No. 14: Unstable weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rain in the South (impact period: 8–9 Nov 2026).

Rain has decreased in upper Thailand, but thunderstorms can still occur in some areas, mainly in the western parts of the North and Central regions. The public is advised to be cautious of thunderstorm dangers.

From 8–9 Nov 2026, the Southern region will see increased rain, with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some places. The public should be wary of accumulated rainfall that could cause flash floods and mountain runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and lowlands.

This is due to a high-pressure area or a new cold air mass from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing the easterly winds over Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand to strengthen.

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand in areas with thunderstorms will be over 2 meters high. Mariners in these waters should check their routes and navigate with caution, avoiding sailing in thunderstorm zones.

For safety and to minimize impacts, the public is advised to plan their activities and travel carefully during this period, follow continuous updates from the Meteorological Department, and access information at https://www.tmd.go.th or call 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.

Daily weather forecast: The South will see increased rain with heavy to very heavy downpours in some areas. Upper Thailand's rain has decreased but thunderstorms remain in some places, mainly in the western North and Central regions. People in these areas should be cautious of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash floods and mountain runoff, particularly in foothill and lowland areas.

This is because a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China is covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing the easterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea to strengthen.

In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, areas with thunderstorms will experience waves over 2 meters high. Mariners should navigate carefully and avoid sailing in thunderstorm zones.

Between 8–13 Nov 2026, the South will receive heavy rain in many areas, with very heavy rain in some places, due to strengthening easterly winds covering the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea.
