Iranian Ambassador Condemns US-Israel Attacks, Declares Self-Defense Until War Ends

The "Iranian ambassador" condemned the attacks by the United States and Israel, aimed at killing leaders and civilians, violating international humanitarian law, and declared self-defense in a full state of war until the conflict ends.

On 4 Mar 2026 GMT+7, H.E. Dr. Nassereddin Heidari, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Kingdom of Thailand, held a press conference to explain details and Iran's stance on the Middle East events to the Thai media.

He stated that the events of 28 February 2026, during an unprovoked and unjustified new wave of aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, constitute violations of international law. Such acts are clear and severe breaches of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter.

The attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime deliberately targeted the highest-ranking official of a sovereign UN member state, namely the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamene'i.

Furthermore, reports of attacks on civilian targets constitute war crimes. Since the onset of this new wave of aggression by the US and Israeli regime on 28 February 2026, military strikes have targeted civilian objects, including schools, hospitals, relief equipment, and personnel, resulting in numerous deaths (martyrdoms) of innocent civilians, including women and children, as well as many injuries.

Iran stated this is clear evidence of "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity," urging the United Nations to urgently act to end these events and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Regarding damages, there was a tragedy in the city of Minab on the first day of the invasion, where a primary school in the small town of Minab in Hormozgan Province was destroyed, killing 165 innocent schoolgirls. Their bodies were recovered from the rubble after hours of relief efforts. Other attacks on the same day resulted in student deaths in cities east of Tehran and Abyek in Qazvin Province. On 1 March 2026, attacks targeted the Red Crescent Council building and hospitals in Tehran, Ahvaz, and other cities, including residential buildings. On 2 and 3 March 2026, missiles struck densely populated residential areas in Kurdistan Province in western Iran.

Iran listed prolonged war crimes by the US and Israeli regime against the Iranian people as serious violations of international humanitarian law (IHL), severely challenging the fundamental right to life of civilians that must be upheld by law. "These acts constitute violations of widely recognized IHL principles and disregard the most basic humanitarian considerations, especially respect for civilians' right to life."

The Iranian ambassador to Thailand said Iran has sincerely and seriously engaged in diplomatic processes, making every effort to prevent war as a demonstration of genuine intention. However, the invasion of Iran has already begun, with the most heinous act being the assassination attempt on the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Consequently, Iran is now in a "state of all-out war" and faces existential threats. As a victim state of aggression, Iran has every right to defend itself with strength, determination, and resolve until this invasion ends.

The Iranian ambassador emphasized Iran’s legitimate right to declare the current full state of war. The Iranian embassy in Thailand has lowered its flag to half-mast and displayed a portrait of the late Supreme Leader Khamene'i in mourning.
