Names of 3 Missing Thai Crew Members from the Mayuree Naree Ship Revealed 20 Others Safe Ashore

The Ministry of Labor is urgently coordinating aid for the crew of the "Mayuree Naree" ship, which was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. It has released the names of three missing crew members—a electrician, a mechanical technician, and an engineer—who are believed to still be trapped on the ship.

On 12 March 2026, Mr. Santi Nantasuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and spokesperson for the ministry, provided an update on assistance for Thai workers involved in the attack on the Thai cargo ship "Mayuree Naree" near the Strait of Hormuz on the morning of 11 March. According to a report from the labor attaché at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the ship had 23 crew members, mostly Thai. They had to abandon the ship and board lifeboats. Twenty crew members were rescued by the Omani Navy and safely brought ashore at Khasab. They are currently staying at a hotel arranged by the company. The Royal Thai Embassy in Muscat is coordinating with the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs to arrange visits.

Three crew members remain missing, believed to be trapped on the ship or possibly in the engine room. Thai and Omani authorities are actively searching and providing assistance. The labor department is coordinating with the Royal Thai Embassy in Muscat to closely monitor and support affected Thai workers.

Mr. Santi added that regarding assistance efforts, Ms. Treenuch Thienthong, Minister of Labor, is deeply concerned about the Thai workers affected by the incident. Police Lieutenant Colonel Wannapong Kotcharak, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, has instructed ministry agencies to visit and offer encouragement to the families of the three missing crew members. This is to promptly communicate the ministry’s support and to verify the rights and benefits the crew members are entitled to from their employer.

An examination of social security insurance eligibility for benefits for the three missing crew members revealed the following:

• Person 1 Mr. Kiattisak Pawaphuchaka Position: Electrician. Hometown: Nong Bua Lamphu Province. Previously insured under Section 33 with 60 contribution months, with a retirement fund balance of 35,988.40 baht (excluding returns).
• Person 2 Mr. Panupong Muentan Position: Mechanical technician on the ship. Hometown: Samut Prakan Province. Previously insured under Section 33 with 6 contribution months, with a retirement fund balance of 678.94 baht (no returns as contributions were less than 12 months).
• Person 3 Mr. Chawalit Chaiwong Position: Engineer. Hometown: Tak Province. Previously insured under Section 33 with 71 contribution months, with a retirement fund balance of 37,201.67 baht (excluding returns).

The Ministry of Labor is coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Marine Department, and related agencies to provide ongoing assistance and ensure the 23 crew members receive all entitled rights and benefits.
