Bangkok Tightens Safety and Emergency Measures for Khao San Road Songkran Festival, Promotes 5 Nos Campaign

On 19 Mar 2026 GMT+7 at Bangkok Metropolitan Hall, Sao Chingcha, Mr. Thanit Tanbuakli, Deputy Permanent Secretary of BMA, announced that the Phra Nakhon District Office is coordinating with relevant agencies such as the Municipal Police, Traffic and Transport Office, Public Health Office, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Bangkok Internal Security Operations Command, Chana Songkhram Police Station, the Khao San Road Business Association, and other stakeholders to hold a security planning meeting for the 2026 Songkran festival on Khao San Road. Discussions covered traffic management, including setting up service lanes to accommodate emergencies and facilitate officials' access, as well as clearly defining entry and exit routes to reduce crowd congestion during Songkran water activities.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary added that for safety, CCTV cameras will be installed to monitor the area 24 hours a day, along with screening points for visitors before entering. Emergency exits will be prepared to evacuate people if necessary or in case of overcrowding. First aid units will be ready for minor injuries, ambulances for emergencies, and security personnel assigned to maintain safety. Publicity measures include installing clear and frequent signage for directions and information to help alleviate traffic issues. The '5 No's' campaign will be enforced: no high-pressure water guns, no alcohol, no indecent clothing, no powder, and no weapons. Additionally, personnel will be fully prepared to ensure the area remains orderly throughout the festival.
