
The Army has investigated the case of a private sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl during Songkran water festivities on Khao San Road. The suspect was identified as a private from the Command Company of the 1st Army Area Command and will be strictly prosecuted according to the law.
On 16 April, Lt. Col. Richcha Suksuwanont, Deputy Spokesperson of the Army, stated that following reports on social media, where the victim notified the 'Sai Mai Must Survive' page about being assaulted and sexually abused by a group claiming to be soldiers near a public restroom close to Khao San Road during the recent Songkran festival, the Army conducted an investigation. It was confirmed that the 1st Army Area Command was contacted by the Chanasongkram Metropolitan Police Station to track down the suspect, believed to be an active-duty soldier, related to the sexual assault incident on the night of 14 April 2026 near Tani Road, adjacent to Khao San Road in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok.
An internal inquiry identified the suspect as Private Phasit Gomahi from the Command Company of the 1st Army Area Command. In initial questioning, he admitted that during his leave, he attended the Songkran water celebrations in the area and engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim as alleged. The soldier friends who accompanied him were preliminarily found to have no involvement orknowledge of the incident.The incident.

Richcha added that the suspect's unit has detained him for further questioning and investigation at the local police station to proceed through the justice system and strictly enforce legal action. The Army emphasized that although this act was a personal misconduct, it is a seriously inappropriate behavior that damages the collective image.
