Thaksin Reports to Probation Office Before Heading Home to Chansomla

Thaksin reported to the Bangkok Probation Office 1 and joked with reporters, “I don’t remember anything anymore. I have Alzheimer’s,” after being asked if he recognized them.

After Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, and his family left Klong Prem Central Prison in a private car, he headed to the probation office to be fitted with an electronic monitoring device, or EM bracelet.

At 08:39 on 11 May 2026, Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, arrived at Bangkok Probation Office 1 in Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok, accompanied by Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. Thaksin, together with his lawyer Winyat Chatmontri, came to report to the probation officials at this office.

Upon arrival, Ms. Paethongtarn assisted Thaksin up to the second floor of the office, where it took about 10 minutes to complete the paperwork.

After finishing the paperwork, Thaksin came downstairs, smiled, and waved to reporters. When asked if he remembered them, since reporters had followed his car to the prison entrance when he first entered, Thaksin replied, “I don’t remember anything anymore. I have Alzheimer’s.” Then, Thaksin and Ms. Paethongtarn got into a car and headed to Chansomla.

However, Phaedet Hringrod, warden of Klong Prem Central Prison, confirmed that probation officers from Bangkok Probation Office 7 fitted Thaksin Shinawatra with an EM bracelet on his left ankle inside Klong Prem Central Prison at 07:00 before he traveled to report to Bangkok Probation Office 1.

According to the probation regulations for parole starting 11 May 2026, the conditions set for Thaksin during parole are as follows:

  • He must live with a designated guardian at the specified address. If he wishes to move or change guardians, he must submit a request to the probation officer in the original jurisdiction and obtain approval first.
  • He must comply with all laws, rules, and regulations, and if he violates them, he may be punished by authorities.
  • He must engage in honest work. If changing workplaces or jobs, he must notify the probation officer each time.
  • He must follow advice and warnings from probation officers, participate in rehabilitation activities, and report to the probation officer once a month.
  • He is prohibited from leaving the province except for important occasional business, for which he must seek permission from the probation officer.
