This morning, Bangkok was refreshed by light rain on Royal Ploughing Day 2026 before the Royal Ploughing Ceremony began at the Sanam Luang ceremonial ground.

At 07:00, Bangkok saw light to moderate rain, with the highest rainfall recorded at Thung Khru District Office at 16.0 mm, followed by the Khlong Song Sai Tai Pumping Station in Sai Mai District at 7.5 mm, Khlong Sanam Chai Pumping Station in Bang Khun Thian District at 7.0 mm, Bang Bon District Office at 5.0 mm, and Pracharuamjai Pumping Station in Min Buri District at 5.0 mm.

However, today the event “Royal Ploughing Ceremony and First Rice Planting Ritual” will be held, a royal ceremony that dates back to ancient times, renowned for its beauty and great significance to the Thai people, especially those in the agricultural profession.

The Royal Ploughing Ceremony and First Rice Planting Ritual comprises two combined royal ceremonies: The Royal Ploughing Ceremony, a Buddhist rite conducted as the first royal ceremony in the ordination hall of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram on 12 May 2026, and The First Rice Planting Ritual, a Brahmin rite held today (13 May 2026) at the Sanam Luang ceremonial ground. It was noted that rain began falling early this morning before the royal ceremony.
