"Taepipob," along with representatives of the Thai Local Liquor Association, submitted a letter to members of the House of Representatives urging a review and postponement of the enforcement of retail liquor tax collection to prevent operators from bearing excessive costs.
On 14 May 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that Mr. Taepipob Limjitrakorn, a Member of Parliament from the People’s Party, together with representatives of the Thai Local Liquor Association, submitted a letter of demands requesting a reconsideration of the tax structure and the criteria for market surveys and the determination of standard prices to members of the House of Representatives.
The demands point out that the new announcement from the Excise Department regarding the criteria for market surveys and collection of retail price data, where the place of sale affects price setting, impacts the determination of standard prices. This has negatively affected small operators, who must bear increased tax expenses, severely impacting costs, operations, and price management. It also affects investment and expansion in the liquor industry, which can stimulate community economies and promote tourism.
The Thai Local Liquor Association therefore proposes that the Excise Department review and delay the enforcement of the criteria for surveying retail prices and determining standard prices while discussing appropriate and fair tax collection methods with all operators. This would prevent operators from bearing excessive costs and allow budgets to be redirected towards product development instead.
Additionally, they propose reconsidering the excise tax structure on alcoholic beverages by separating categories between small and large operators to reduce barriers and promote fair business competition. They also suggest abolishing the retail price tax because producers do not set the retail price themselves and therefore should not be responsible for this tax expense.
