A motorcycle taxi driver revealed the moment a train collided with a bus. Warning signals sounded, but heavy traffic caused a long jam preventing movement. After the train struck the bus and dragged it several meters, passengers cried out for help before the entire bus was engulfed in flames.
On 16 May 2026, from the accident where a train collided with a bus, the incident involved a freight train originating from Chachoengsao Province, destined for Bang Sue Station. It crashed into an air-conditioned bus on route 206, running from Mega Bangna to Bang Khen, near the Makkasan Airport Rail Link station. The crash caused a severe fire on the bus, resulting in 8 deaths and many injuries, as previously reported.
Recently, our news team spoke with Mr. Somkid Tosoi, a motorcycle taxi driver who witnessed the event. At the time of the collision near the railway crossing, he was about to ride to deliver a passenger. Traffic was heavily congested, especially around the railway crossing where many vehicles were stuck.
Before the accident, the train warning signals were sounding normally, but the crossing barriers could not lower because vehicles were stopped on the tracks, particularly the bus that was stuck in the middle. Other vehicles were tightly packed, making movement impossible.
Seeing the freight train approaching at speed, he shouted warnings and blew a whistle to alert the bus driver. Railway staff also tried to signal, but it was too late because the train could not brake in time.
Mr. Somkid said the train was moving at high speed. Although it tried to slow down, its heavy freight load prevented it from stopping, resulting in a loud collision with the bus.
After the collision, the bus was dragged several meters, and flames and smoke began to emerge. At first, the fire was small, so he rushed to help trapped passengers. Some were calling for help, some were dazed or unconscious, and several were bleeding heavily. The cries for help from injured passengers were loud and continuous.
Mr. Somkid admitted that witnessing the scene was deeply upsetting and he hopes such an accident never happens again. This location has had multiple previous accidents involving motorcycles, pedestrians, and traffic jams near the railway crossing, especially on busy weekdays.
He urged relevant authorities to seriously inspect and address the risks at this site to prevent future tragedies.
