A Myanmar man tearfully reported his wife missing after she boarded Bus 206; her fate remains unknown and she cannot be contacted following a train-bus collision.
A serious accident occurred when freight train No. 2126 from Laem Chabang to Bang Sue Junction, operated by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), collided with Bus 206 stopped on railway tracks due to a red light at the Asoke-Phetchaburi intersection near the Asoke-Din Daeng level crossing (between Khlong Tan and Makkasan stations). The collision caused a severe accident with a fire spreading at the scene. Initial reports confirmed 8 deaths and about 32 injuries at around 15:40 GMT+7 on 16 May 2026.
On the same day, reports indicated several victims came to Makkasan Police Station to file reports, including the family of a missing person. Our news team spoke with "Mr. Tom," a Myanmar man who filed a report after his wife boarded Bus 206. She lives near Rama 9 Soi 4 and typically rides Bus 206 on her days off to visit him in the Sukhumvit area.
He said his wife boarded Bus 206 at 15:15. After hearing news of the train hitting the bus, he tried calling her but has been unable to reach her. Checking the list of injured persons, her name does not appear, nor is it clear if she is among the eight deceased, whose names have not been fully released. Her fate remains unknown.
Additionally, the news team spoke with the missing woman’s niece, who said she checked the viabus app today to help her aunt travel to visit her husband near On Nut. Her aunt left quickly and boarded the bus at 15:15, sending a message confirming she was on board. Minutes later, news broke of the train-bus collision involving Bus 206. The niece has since been trying to contact her aunt without success and feels she would blame herself if anything happened to her.
