Names of Two Dead Released in Train-Bus Collision Relatives of 66-Year-Old Aunt Collect DNA, Reveal Final Words

The names of two deceased have been released following the train-bus collision at Makkasan. Meanwhile, relatives of a 66-year-old aunt went to collect DNA after suspecting she might be among the victims, revealing her final words before losing contact and praying it was not her.

The train collided with a bus at the railway crossing at the Asoke-Phet intersection on Kamphaeng Phet 7 Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. yesterday (16 May), resulting in eight deaths at the scene and numerous injuries, as previously reported.

In the latest update today (17 May 2026) at the Forensic Institute of Police General Hospital, Miss Sirilak, known as Tom, and her family arrived to provide DNA samples to compare with the eight victims from the train-bus collision at the Makkasan railway crossing on Asoke-Din Daeng Road near the Rama 9 intersection heading toward Asoke-Phet intersection yesterday.

Miss Sirilak revealed that the person suspected to have been on the bus involved in the accident was her 66-year-old aunt, Aunt Eiang, who works as a housekeeper near Chulalongkorn Hospital. Initially, the family did not consider her involvement until her sister sent CCTV footage and photos from the incident, showing an elderly woman sitting near the middle door wearing a pink shirt and black pants, resembling her aunt in clothing, build, and facial features.

The family then reviewed CCTV footage from their home in Samut Prakan Province and found that the aunt left the house at around 8 a.m. yesterday and subsequently disappeared. Further examination of the incident footage increasingly matched the woman on the bus to their aunt.

Before the accident, the aunt had been speaking on the phone with a friend when suddenly a scream was heard, and the call was cut off. Since then, she has been unreachable. Additionally, her Facebook account went offline around the time of the accident, and her mobile phone is now turned off.

Because of this, the family decided to come to the Forensic Institute at Police General Hospital to collect DNA samples and verify whether their aunt is among the deceased.

Miss Sirilak admitted the family is very worried as her aunt is a key pillar of their family, and if she died in the accident, it would be a huge loss for everyone at home.

The aunt regularly travels by bus and sometimes takes trips or goes for massages without notifying anyone in advance.

Nevertheless, the family still holds hope and prays that the aunt is not among the deceased on the bus.

Reporters note that the accident resulted in eight fatalities. Two have been identified: Mr. Thekha Utmakorn, aged 34, and Ms. Thiam Phuangyod, aged 57. The remaining six await identification at the Forensic Institute of Police General Hospital.

Of the injured, 15 have been discharged, while 18 remain hospitalized.

Further updates will be reported as available.
