CCTV footage captures the moment a railway barrier employee raises a red flag to signal the train driver, possibly due to communication failure, before the tragic train-bus collision.
Regarding the train-bus collision near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan Station at approximately 15:30 yesterday (16 May), the accident resulted in 8 deaths at the scene and numerous injuries, as previously reported.
An update at 13:00 on 17 May 2026 revealed CCTV footage showing the railway barrier employee of the State Railway raising a red flag at 15:35 to warn the train involved. The flag was held for nearly one minute before being lowered. The train then proceeded without reducing speed. The footage shows the barrier employee turning away from the approaching train after lowering the red flag and displaying shock after the incident.
Reports indicate that raising the red flag signals danger due to an obstruction on the tracks. This procedure follows radio communication between the barrier staff and the train driver, which was reportedly unsuccessful before the tragic accident.
