Ruamkatanyu Foundation Reports Discovery of Victim Remains at Train-Bus Collision Site, Awaiting Identification

Progress in the train-bus collision: Ruamkatanyu Foundation officials revealed they found victim remains left at the accident scene, awaiting identification confirmation.

Regarding the train-bus collision near Makkasan Airport Rail Link station at approximately 15:30 on 16 May, the accident resulted in eight fatalities at the scene and numerous injuries, as previously reported.

On 17 May 2026, Mr. Jirapong Pearnijnurak, an official from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, disclosed after inspecting the site that officials were informed of victim remains still present at the scene. Currently, it is unclear which victims the small, charred fragments belong to. Flies were observed around the area, along with scattered vehicle debris and coins.

Officials stated that most bodies recovered yesterday were damaged and over 50% burned, leaving few intact bodies. Other tissue fragments were also scattered and have been collected to be sent to the Police Hospital's forensic institute for identification and confirmation of the victims' identities.

Arrangements to return the bodies for religious rites in their hometowns will wait for official coordination from the Police Hospital's forensic institute after the completion of the formal identification process.
