
It was revealed that the train driver was not in the train control cabin before the collision with the bus and was not dressed in the uniform as required by regulations. He later changed his hairstyle after turning himself in to acknowledge charges with the police.
Regarding the train-bus collision near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan Station around 15:30 on 16 May, the accident resulted in 8 deaths at the scene and many injuries, as previously reported.
At 13:00 on 18 May 2026 at Makkasan Police Station, sources released images of 46-year-old train driver Sayomporn Suankul, involved in the train-bus collision, taken when he was taken into custody moments after the incident. He was not wearing the official uniform required by the State Railway of Thailand. Instead, Sayomporn wore a gray short-sleeved T-shirt, blue long pants, leather shoes, and had long hair. Notably, after turning himself in to investigators at Makkasan Police Station, Sayomporn had a short haircut. Reports say that while he was hospitalized, supervisors sent a barber to cut his hair at his hospital bed.
Regarding the investigation, some CCTV cameras recorded the train's movement before the collision. Some cameras captured images inside the train driver’s cabin and did not show Sayomporn operating the train. Police are conducting a thorough investigation. They summoned the mechanic or assistant driver who was working as a buddy with Sayomporn on the same train for questioning at 14:00 today.
