A train grazed a young rider along the Makkasan railway line, causing severe injuries. Emergency personnel provided initial first aid before rushing him to the hospital.
At 10:50 a.m. on 19 May 2023, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wenid Toskul, Deputy Superintendent of Traffic at Makkasan Police Station, was on duty when he received a report of a train grazing a pedestrian, causing severe injuries. The incident occurred along the Makkasan railway line in front of the Mercier Hotel, near the BTS Makkasan station on Kamphaeng Phet 7 Road, Makkasan subdistrict, Ratchathewi district, Bangkok. He promptly went to the scene with Police Colonel Uramphon Khundechsamrit, Superintendent of Makkasan Police Station, along with rescue personnel from Phra Mongkut Hospital and volunteers from Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
At the scene by the railway tracks, they found a man approximately 50-55 years old, a rider, lying face down and breathing faintly. He wore a black jacket and blue long jeans and had wounds on his head and face. Emergency personnel administered first aid and quickly transported him to Phra Mongkut Hospital.
Preliminary investigation revealed the injured man had parked his motorcycle near the railway line and crossed the tracks to urinate. When crossing back to the other side, which was out of the train driver's view, he was wearing headphones in both ears. The train arrived at that moment, grazing him and causing severe injuries.
Authorities will conduct a detailed investigation before proceeding with legal action.
