
The State Railway of Thailand coordinated with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board to conduct random drug and alcohol tests on 298 railway employees. Two individuals—a driver and a track gate employee—were found to have drugs in their systems after positive urine tests, leading to shock.
Case of the tragedy "Train Collides with Bus" Freight train No. 2126 collided with an orange air-conditioned bus (No. 206), vehicle number 3-44197, running between Mega Bangna and Kasetsart University (KU), license plate 12-5641 Bangkok. The crash caused a fire, resulting in 8 passenger deaths and 30 injuries, with multiple vehicles damaged. The incident occurred near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan station on Asok-Din Daeng Road, Makkasan subdistrict, Ratchathewi district at 15:42 on 16 May 2026. Amid the sorrow, the SRT intensified its measures to test employees for drugs and alcohol before duty, as previously reported.
On 20 May 2026, reporters received updates on drug and alcohol testing results conducted by the SRT medical unit in cooperation with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board. They tested employees involved in train operations, operational control, and mechanical engineering at the Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station.

A total of 157 people were tested, divided as follows:
1. Operational Control Department: 50 people tested (47 men, 3 women)
No drug presence detected in urine; no alcohol detected in breath.
2. Mechanical Engineering Department: 107 people tested (all men)
No drug presence detected in urine; no alcohol detected in breath.

3. Total tested: 141 people
- 139 tested negative for drugs in urine
- 2 tested positive for drugs in urine (one train driver from Bang Sue Locomotive Depot and one track gate employee)
- No alcohol detected in breath for all 141 tested
Recently, the Bang Sue Locomotive Depot inspector issued an order suspending Mr. Pan-anun (surname withheld), a Bang Sue locomotive employee who tested positive for drugs, from duty on trains until further notice.
