The Police Forensic Commander revealed that the eighth body from the train-bus collision is suspected to be a cousin who came to Bangkok on business, but DNA could not yet be collected because the relation is not direct.
Regarding the incident "train colliding with a bus" The accident involved freight train number 2126 (route Laem Chabang Port to Bang Sue) colliding with bus line 206 between Khlong Tan and Makkasan stations (at the railway level crossing near the Asoke-Din Daeng intersection) on 16 May 2026, resulting in 8 deaths and 30 injuries as previously reported.
The latest update this morning (22 May 2026), Pol. Maj. Gen. Wirul Supasinghsiripreecha, Commander of the Police Forensic Division at Police Hospital, disclosed that yesterday someone came to the Police Hospital's Forensic Institute to provide information about a missing person who might be the eighth victim. They said the missing person was a cousin who traveled from Sukhothai Province to Bangkok on business. However, officials could not collect DNA samples from this person for comparison due to the distant family relationship with the eighth body.
The police are now investigating and checking the civil registry to find close relatives, such as parents, to invite them for DNA sampling to compare. This is a small hope that may lead to identifying the last deceased person, who still has no relatives to claim the body for funeral rites. Both the police and forensic institute staff are making every effort to locate relatives or close associates of the eighth body.
