Latest update on 8 June 2026 at 09:50 GMT+7: Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, visited the scene near Wat Boromniwas in Pathumwan district to monitor the fire situation. He inspected the work of emergency personnel and offered support to those affected by the fire. He stated that Bangkok authorities received the fire alert early this morning. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation deployed firefighters, fire trucks, machinery, and equipment from local and nearby stations, with full cooperation from partner agencies, foundations, and the private sector to contain the fire.
Preliminary investigations found that the fire spread through buildings and houses within a community, mostly old wooden structures in a densely populated area. This made access to the fire scene and firefighting efforts difficult. However, officials have managed to control the fire and are currently checking for remaining hot spots to prevent re-ignition. The cause of the fire will be investigated after the fire is fully extinguished.
Regarding the affected people, Bangkok authorities have set up a temporary relief center at Wat Sarabua School to accommodate evacuees. Injured individuals have been taken to Bangkok Hospital. So far, no deaths have been reported. Minor injuries were reported for three people and one volunteer, who suffered from smoke inhalation. Two were admitted to Bangkok Hospital, one to Hua Chiew Hospital, and one to Police General Hospital.
The Permanent Secretary of Bangkok has instructed the Pathumwan district office, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and the Department of Public Works to jointly assess the damage and structural integrity of buildings. Teams of engineers and structural experts have been assigned to conduct thorough inspections. The Pathumwan district office has issued orders prohibiting entry and use of affected buildings to ensure the safety of the public and emergency workers.
Bangkok authorities will expedite damage surveys and develop assistance and compensation plans for those affected, in accordance with relevant regulations. They will continue to closely monitor the situation until it returns to normal.
