Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is monitoring the situation closely of high sea tides and riverbank flooding from 14 to 20 June 2026, preparing response plans to ease public hardship.
On 16 June 2026, Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, stated that the BMA has coordinated with the Royal Irrigation Department and the Hydrographic Department of the Royal Thai Navy to monitor the high tide situation on the Chao Phraya River and upstream water levels in real time. This follows warnings from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) advising Bangkok and six central provinces to be alert to high tides and riverbank flooding from 14 to 20 June 2026. The BMA has prepared water management plans to promptly assist the public. The proactive measures and preparations by the BMA are summarized as follows:
Reinforcing barriers: Accelerating sandbagging to seal gaps and construction areas along the Chao Phraya River banks, Bangkok Noi Canal, and Mahasawat Canal, raising the barrier height to +2.40 to +2.70 meters above mean sea level.
Preventing water intrusion into inner areas: Installing additional water pumps and managing the opening and closing of drainage gates in synchronization with the tidal cycles from the Gulf of Thailand.
Monitoring vulnerable points: Assigning officials to inspect low-lying riverside areas, especially during daily peak high tides.
For public advice and warnings, operators and residents along both sides of the Chao Phraya River, particularly in 11 communities outside the flood barrier in six districts (Dusit, Phra Nakhon, Bang Kho Laem, Yan Nawa, Bangkok Noi, and Khlong San), are advised to prepare and elevate belongings to higher ground.
