Social Security Office Clarifies Signal Network Lease Costs at 850,000 Baht per Month, Not 24 Million

The Social Security Office clarifies facts regarding the project to lease a signal network for data transmission between the main and backup computer centers.

On 25 Jun 2024 GMT+7,reportersreported that the Social Security Office (SSO), Ministry of Labour, released clarifying information about the Dark Fiber network leasing project for data transmission between the main and backup computer centers, stating thatin response toclaims that the Social Security Office pays 24 million baht per month to lease a private Dark Fiber network for point-to-point data connection, the actual figure is7,713,000 baht total, equating to 857,000 baht per month for a 9-month lease period, according to the approved budget, correcting the misinformation.

Strategically and for risk management, this leased network connects the main computer center in Nonthaburi and the backup center in Rayong, spanning approximately 290 to 300 kilometers. Its key purposes are: 1. Data backup and replication to prevent loss of insured persons’ data in case of disaster or emergency at either center; and 2. Ensuring maximum stability and security. Dark Fiber technology uses a private optical fiber cable, offering high stability, low latency, and greater data security than standard internet because it provides dedicated point-to-point transmission. The Social Security Office recognizes that every baht is from insured persons’ contributions and has therefore carefully reviewed this project, assuring transparent, auditable operations with the insured persons’ best interests as the priority.
