Flight attendant caught carrying heroin "Thai Airways CEO orders a fact-finding and disciplinary committee to reach a conclusion within 7 days in the case of the flight attendant detained in Australia after heroin was found. The incident has caused damage and harmed Thai Airways’ reputation, which may result in others facing difficulties when traveling to Australia."
On 29 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Chai Iamsiri, CEO of Thai Airways Public Company Limited (Thai Airways), stated that following reports of a crew member carrying illegal substances on a flight from Thailand to Australia, detected by sniffer dogs inspecting luggage, the company acknowledges that the crew member did commit an offense. Legal procedures will be followed, and the company will not interfere, leaving it to Australian police authorities. Thai Airways stands ready to fully cooperate with relevant agencies.
Regarding company procedures, Thai Airways has immediately suspended the crew member from duty. Simultaneously, it has formed a committee to investigate the facts and conduct a disciplinary inquiry, aiming to conclude within 7 days or sooner. If the findings confirm the offense, the company will impose the maximum penalty of dismissal. The CEO acknowledges that this incident has caused significant damage and harmed the airline’s reputation.
"I admit this incident has seriously damaged Thai Airways' reputation, and it will likely make it more difficult or complicated for crew members or Thai travelers entering Australia in the future. However, I believe countries will not judge everyone based on this single incident but will assess individuals separately. I also emphasize that Thai Airways already has strict systems and regulations in place. Given this event, I have instructed all departments to enforce these measures more rigorously. Some controls are challenging because Thai Airways has over 4,000 crew and more than 1,000 pilots. Before flights, the airline briefs everyone on rules, prohibitions, and illegal items. Everyone understands what is permitted and what is illegal. Therefore, each person must take responsibility for their actions," Mr. Chai said.
