Slight Subsidence on Prachathipok Road Due to Water Leakage in Metro Tunnel Safety Not Yet Fully Assured

The superintendent of Buppharam Police Station revealed that Prachathipok Road experienced only slight subsidence following a water leak in the metro tunnel. Repairs began at 4 a.m., with a full traffic closure starting at 11 a.m. The contractor confirmed no building subsidence has been found, but cannot yet guarantee 100% safety, awaiting further engineering inspection results.

A water leak occurred into the underground metro tunnel's sump pit, located about 30 meters below the road surface near Wongwian Yai intersection. This is part of the construction of the Purple Line metro project, contract 4, covering the Tao Poon to Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring) section, spanning from Phut Bridge to Dao Khanong, on 8 July 2026.

Regarding this matter on 9 July 2026, Pol. Col. Phuwadol Unphot, superintendent of Buppharam Police Station, disclosed that inspection found only slight subsidence on the surface of Prachathipok Road heading toward Wongwian Yai. The construction contractor reported repair work started at 4 a.m., deploying two concrete mixer trucks to seal leaks inside the tunnel. Progress is expected today, but completion time remains uncertain.

For traffic management, initially, the two leftmost lanes on the outbound side of Prachathipok Road will be closed. Then, from 11 a.m., traffic will be fully closed from Ban Khaek intersection to Wongwian Yai in all lanes. A detour will be set up at Ban Khaek intersection, directing traffic onto the inbound side of Prachathipok Road to facilitate repairs near Ban Khaek intersection.

The contractor confirmed no subsidence has been detected in buildings surrounding the construction area. However, residents in the vicinity have been advised to stay alert and monitor the situation closely. Full assurance of the safety of nearby buildings cannot yet be provided, pending detailed inspections by engineers and relevant authorities.

"Repairs began at 4 a.m., but residents living nearby are advised to prepare accordingly. As for guaranteeing 100% safety, this cannot yet be confirmed and must await verification and inspection reports from the contractor," he said.
