Cell Broadcast Alerts Traffic Closure on Prachathipok Road for Rapid MRT Tunnel Repairs

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued a Cell Broadcast alert warning of a complete traffic closure on Prachathipok Road in both directions starting at 17:30 to expedite repairs on the MRT tunnel, with detours opened.

On 9 Jul 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that water leakage was detected inside the MRT tunnel under construction near Wongwian Yai intersection. The Purple Line MRT project section from Tao Poon to Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road), contract 4 area between Phuttha Bridge and Dao Khanong, approximately 30 meters below the road surface at Wongwian Yai, was affected, as previously reported.

Recently, Buppharam Police Station announced a "full traffic closure" on Prachathipok Road outbound from Ban Khaek intersection to Wongwian Yai, and inbound lanes were adjusted to allow two outbound lanes for vehicles.

At approximately 17:00, the DDPM sent a Cell Broadcast alert stating: "This notification is to inform that DDPM announces a traffic closure.

16:58:04: Officials are currently inspecting Prachathipok Road to facilitate urgent repairs of the Purple Line MRT tunnel. Therefore, Prachathipok Road will be closed from Ban Khaek intersection to Wongwian Yai and from Wongwian Yai to Ban Khaek intersection on all lanes starting at 17:30. DDPM."


Alternative routes after the closure of Prachathipok Road:

  • Vehicles coming from Phuttha Bridge and King Prajadhipok Bridge should turn left or right onto Itsaraphap Road.
  • Vehicles coming from Khlong San intersection can enter Wongwian Yai heading towards Taksin intersection.
  • Vehicles coming from Taksin intersection heading toward Prachathipok Road should proceed toward Tha Phra intersection and Charansanitwong Road.
  • Vehicles coming from Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Road should circle Wongwian Yai toward Ban Khaek intersection.
