Poh Teck Tung Foundation Holds 2026 Thip Krajad Charity Event Distributing Over 15.8 Million Baht in Aid to the Needy

"Poh Teck Tung Foundation" is the organization involved in the event and tradition. They organized the 2026 annual Thip Krajad (Si Kow) tradition, adapting the grand merit-making practice by preparing an increased quantity of essential goods for the poor, expanding opportunities in line with rising living costs, with a total value of 15.8 million baht.

On 9 Sep 2026 at 09:00, at the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, Mr. Kobchai Sotsotikul, Vice Chairman, Mr. Sak Kosangruang, Vice Chairman, Mr. Wichit Chinwongworakul, Vice Chairman, Mrs. Sirikul Opasawong, Committee Member and Secretary, along with the foundation’s committee, assistant committee, and Dr. Saowanee Techapaiboon, Chairperson's spouse and honorary volunteer, held a ceremony distributing 9,000 sets of essential goods for the 2026 Thip Krajad tradition, also providing 200 baht transport allowance each to needy people from Bangkok and provinces who gathered densely to receive them.

This year, the foundation adjusted its distribution method to broaden opportunities for the poor. The distributed items included rice, canned fish, instant noodles or rice vermicelli, fish sauce, cooking oil, snacks, clothes, foam sandals, and more, packed in foundation cloth bags. Mr. Thanit Tanbuaklee, Deputy Bangkok Governor, presided over the ceremony alongside honored guests, representatives from related agencies, honorary volunteers, and volunteer artists such as Mrs. Siriporn Opasawong and Mr. Polpat Techaruhvijit, held at the Poh Teck Tung Foundation in Phlapphla Chai, Bangkok.

During the event, staff and volunteer artists led by Mr. Thawatchai Kachanun (Hack Chuan Chuen), Mr. Wasawit Satapipat (Ton-Jakkrit), Mr. Sawit Phetwisesiri (Bee), Ms. Pichakkhana Wongsaratanasilp (Namtan), Ms. Phatsita Athianantasak (Grace-Phatsita), Ms. Aticha Thetkham (May-Aticha), Ms. Benyapha Chanjai (Kim), among others, participated in distributing goods and enlivening the atmosphere. The event was filled with heartfelt joy for both givers and receivers. Additionally, donors contributed food and essential goods to attendees, while foundation staff and volunteers formed teams to care for the public starting from 8 Sep 2026 onward.

The Thip Krajad tradition is a significant merit-making event practiced since Buddhist times by offering essential goods, rice, and dried food to honor ancestors and unclaimed spirits, then distributing them as charity to the poor. It is a grand merit event combining merit-making and giving.

The foundation has continued the Thip Krajad tradition for over 100 years. For the 2026 event, Poh Teck Tung Foundation adapted the grand merit-making to enable donors to participate according to tradition with legal tax deductions, reducing physical contact to prevent virus spread, ensuring safety for both givers and receivers.

Furthermore, the foundation increased the quantity and contents of essential goods sets compared to previous years, matching the number of recipients and current living costs to alleviate hardship and reduce household expenses for the poor. They expanded distribution areas in Bangkok and provinces, particularly distributing 3,000 sets in six Bangkok districts via caravans to needy people, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Bangkok Governor, presiding over the ceremony. They also provided goods to various organizations for further distribution in three provinces, totaling 15.8 million baht in value for the 2026 Thip Krajad tradition.
