Pitbull Dog Bites 70-Year-Old Owner to Death, Second Fatality After Previous Chonburi Incident

At 18:30 on 9 Sep 2016, Police Lieutenant Ekaphon Mani, investigator at Lat Phrao Police Station, received a report of a fatal dog attack inside a house on Soi Nawamin 111, Intersection 7, Nawamin subdistrict, Bueng Kum district, Bangkok. He promptly arrived with Police Colonel Thanaphan Phadungkarn, chief of Lat Phrao station, forensic officers, forensic doctors from the Police Hospital, and volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

The scene was a single-story concrete house. Outside the front fence lay the body of Mrs. Wandi, 70, on her back in a pool of blood, wearing a white short-sleeve T-shirt and gray sweatpants. She had multiple bite wounds on her face, neck, and arms, with blood splattered widely. A male brown pitbull dog was roaming inside the house. Officers could not enter immediately and took considerable time to bring in experts to safely cage the dog.

Investigation revealed that the housemaid living at the property said she resided there with the dog. Mrs. Wandi owned the dog but did not live at the house; she came daily to feed the dog herself.

Before the incident, Mrs. Wandi came to feed and play with the dog as usual, but the dog bit and attacked her. Preliminary inquiry showed the house was rented specifically for keeping the dog.

Mrs. Wandi lived near Soi Pho Kaeo, Khlong Montri intersection. Witnesses said the dog was sick and irritable the entire time. Mrs. Wandi opened the cage to clean the dog's face. The Burmese housemaid attempted to tie the dog’s neck with a rope, but the dog attacked Mrs. Wandi. The housemaid fled, while Mrs. Wandi was injured and died at the scene.
