Khlong Chan and Lat Phrao Housing Projects Water Begins to Recede, Bangkok Adjusts Efforts to Speed Recovery in Lat Krabang and Saphan Sung

Governor Chadchart revealed that water at the Khlong Chan and Lat Phrao housing projects is starting to recede. Efforts are underway to drain residual water from alleys and communities, while manpower is being adjusted to expedite recovery in Lat Krabang and Saphan Sung districts, alongside urban restoration once floodwaters subside.

At 5:00 a.m. on 1 October 2026, Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited the area to monitor the flooding situation and relief operations at Khlong Chan Housing in Bang Kapi district. Jeerasak Hongpaet, the Bang Kapi district director, reported on the current situation and ongoing efforts, noting that the Khlong Chan Housing flooding is steadily improving with water levels continuing to drop.

Governor Chadchart stated that conditions at Khlong Chan Housing are continuously improving, with water levels falling. Similarly, water levels on Nawamin Road are decreasing. However, areas requiring close monitoring include Lat Krabang and Saphan Sung districts, as well as nearby Min Buri and Nong Chok districts, because water levels in Pravet Burirom Canal remain high.

At Khlong Chan Housing, where some residential areas lie almost one meter below the canal level, the situation has now eased. Residents who parked vehicles along roadsides or on bridges can gradually return their cars to the area, as normal traffic flow resumes and roadside parking in those spots could otherwise impede traffic. Additionally, residents can use the “Park and Ride” parking lot at the BTS station, which is offering free parking for seven days during this period.

Lat Phrao Road has dried up, with efforts focusing on draining residual water.

Meanwhile, Sri Burapha Road shows signs of improvement, while Lat Phrao Road is now dry along its entire length. Remaining work involves accelerating drainage in Lat Phrao Soi 101 and certain village areas. Bangkok authorities will expedite pumping water out from alleys and community areas to restore normal conditions promptly.

Regarding Bang Kapi intersection, the road surface is now dry, with only minor puddles along the edges. The district office has been instructed to place sandbags around the pumping station to raise the protective barrier height and reduce the risk of water in the canal pushing back onto the roadway.

Accelerating drainage of Lam Phung Phuay and Saen Saeb Canals

Governor Chadchart added that the next step for Bangkok is to accelerate water drainage into Lam Phung Phuay Canal to help Nawamin Road dry up faster. On 30 September, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation deployed small-diameter pump pipes to assist in pumping shallow residual water into Saen Saeb Canal.

Water levels in Saen Saeb Canal are showing improvement, as there has been no continuous rainfall for about two days.

Moving forward with post-flood restoration

Once water levels subside, Bangkok will enter full-scale restoration, including repairing road surfaces damaged by flooding. The BEST unit will expedite repairs of damaged spots to prevent accidents and facilitate public convenience. Efforts will also include collecting flood debris and mobilizing cleaning crews to clear roads and public spaces where water has receded.

For restoration, Bangkok will apply a “buddy district pairing” approach, where two unaffected districts share manpower, equipment, machinery, and pumps to support one affected district. This aims to improve restoration efficiency and help residents return to normal life swiftly.

Lowering canal water levels first, then pumping from roads and communities

“The current principle for flood management is to first reduce water levels in canals. Once canal water decreases, pumping will proceed from roads, alleys, and communities sequentially. This gradual approach enables the drainage system to operate efficiently,” Governor Chadchart explained.

Today’s focus: managing Lat Krabang and Saphan Sung areas

Today, Bangkok will intensify operations along Srinakarin Road, Phatthanakan Road, and in Saphan Sung and Lat Krabang districts, using Pravet Burirom Canal as the main axis for water management and drainage. Water levels in the canal will be closely monitored.

Residents still affected or needing assistance can report issues via the Traffy Fondue app or Bangkok’s hotline 1555. Bangkok will dispatch staff to inspect and provide support as appropriate.
