After a joint meeting of four parties reached a conclusion, "Uthenthawai" announced the end of their protest and confirmed ending conflicts with "Pathumwan," vowing to continue the fight over land ownership issues.
On 22 Oct, Mr. Jirathiti Phanmani, president of the Uthenthawai Alumni Association, said after a four-party meeting with the MHESI minister, Bangkok Metropolitan Police, Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern Campus Uthenthawai, and Pathumwan Institute of Technology to find a solution and set joint guidelines on the land dispute and institutional conflict that Uthenthawai is ready to end the protest and return home, having achieved the agreed terms.
Regarding resolving the conflict and clashes, Uthenthawai, alumni, and faculty jointly declared their intention and vow to stop the long-standing disputes. At the joint meeting with Pathumwan Technical Institute, both the president and president of the Pathumwan Alumni Association expressed their willingness to cooperate further in resolving the details of this issue.
On the issue of "land" and ministerial order 120/2559, which follows the Cabinet resolution, Uthenthawai still disputes this, stating the Cabinet resolution was only an observation and recommendation, not a final or binding decision for immediate relocation. Therefore, Uthenthawai insists on continuing to fight Chulalongkorn University over land ownership, believing it holds legitimate rights to the land.
During the estimated two-year transition period, the MHESI will oversee allocating laboratories and classrooms in cooperation with network universities to ensure students can continue their studies safely and without interruption.
Reports state that after the joint meeting, there was a resolution that Prof. Dr. Yossanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, confirmed clear measures and guidelines on three main points: Relocate the area according to the law while maximizing compensation for impacts. This includes tuition fee support, compensation for relocation and travel expenses of faculty, assistance with dormitory rent or prepaid rooms by students, as well as increased travel costs. Suspend teaching activities on the site, emphasizing the core value of "safety for everyone’s life." To ensure practical learning is uninterrupted, coordination with Rajamangala University of Technology (RMUT) started last month to open laboratories to accommodate students. Currently, deans must expedite compiling departmental requirements and coordinate with RMUT, which will complete arrangements within next week, before reviewing the overall plan together.
, Additional cooperative measures were agreed upon, including a 50% tuition reduction. Also, travel support will be provided to faculty who need to teach at new locations, leveraging RMUT networks and upgrading Pathumwan Institute of Technology’s skills toward real industry.
