Fire at "Bhumibol Bridge 2" At the pier area The fire is believed to have started from garbage piles underneath, then spread along PE pipes. Preliminary checks show no structural damage; the bridge remains fully operational.
A fire broke out at the base of a pier on the Pu Chao Saming Phrai side of Bhumibol Bridge 2 in Bang Ya Phraek Subdistrict, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province. The flames spread to rubber drainage pipes of the bridge structure, producing intense fire along the same level as the bridge pier. The incident occurred around 19:00 on 15 Jan 2026. Firefighters responded promptly, but because the fire spread upward under the bridge deck more than 50 meters above ground, normal fire truck water pressure couldn't reach the top. A high-lift fire truck was called in to spray water from above. It took over an hour to extinguish the fire. Damage was limited to the bridge’s drainage pipes, and vehicle traffic continued as usual.
Later, Mr. Rewat Sukkham, Director of the Industrial Ring Bridge Division, inspected the site with engineers and confirmed the bridge remains structurally sound and fully functional. At 10:00 today, an engineering team will conduct a further detailed survey. The fire likely originated from the lower ground where garbage piles were at the pier’s base, spreading because the drainage system’s pipes have no electrical current.
Mr. Prin Jawathiyakul, Deputy Governor of Phra Pradaeng District for Prevention, visited the site and stated that initial investigation found the fire started at the pier base, probably from a spark. The visible flames along the PE pipes were due to the fire spreading through the drainage pipes that channel water from the bridge downwards.
Ms. Pimpa Jengjaiboon, 61, a municipal councilor of Pu Chao Saming Phrai town and eyewitness, said she saw flames at the pier base when the fire was still small. She ran to observe, but the fire spread quickly upward, so she promptly alerted the municipality to bring water trucks to extinguish it. She initially suspected the fire started from burning dry grass in the area, as dry grass was present near the site.
