A heartbreaking birthday night: a father cooked and waited as his son did not return home. Then he received a shocking call—their 19-year-old son was struck and killed when a truck clipped and ran over his head on his birthday. The truck driver fled the scene in Ayutthaya.
At approximately 18:30 on 17 January 2026, police from Rong Chang Police Station, Maharaj District, received a report of a motorcycle-truck collision with a fatality on Pho Phraya–Tha Ruea Road, Chao Pluk Subdistrict, Maharaj District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. They coordinated with relevant agencies to investigate the scene.
At the scene, the body of a 19-year-old man was found lying dead in the middle of the road, face up, with his head crushed against the pavement. Nearby was the victim’s motorcycle, overturned and damaged.
According to witnesses, before the accident, the victim was riding his motorcycle along the road when an 18-wheel tractor-trailer clipped him, causing him to fall. His body slid under the truck, and his head was run over, resulting in death. After the incident, the truck accelerated and fled the scene immediately.
Officials found the victim’s mobile phone at the scene and called a number stored in it, which belonged to the victim’s father, urging him to come to the location urgently.
When the victim’s father arrived and saw his son’s body lying on the road, he collapsed, embraced the corpse, and wept in deep grief. Through tears, he told his son he had cooked food and prepared a birthday celebration, with friends waiting at home to blow out the cake. This scene deeply moved relatives and those present.
Relatives, including the victim’s uncle and aunt, added that the victim was about to celebrate his 19th birthday that night. Before the accident, he had gone out to get something for a friend who lived not far from their home, before the tragic accident occurred.
Another witness recounted hearing the vehicle before turning to see the motorcycle being struck by the truck and falling. The rider’s body slid under the truck’s wheels and was run over. The truck then sped away along the Tha Ruea–Pho Phraya road heading toward Tha Ruea District. The exact escape route remains unknown.
Initially, investigators photographed and examined the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses to track down the fleeing 18-wheel truck driver for legal action. The victim’s body was sent for autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani Province.
