At 20:00 on 10 Feb 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Dechrit Srikacha, investigator at Bang Khla Police Station, received a report of a fatal cable entanglement accident and coordinated with Chachoengsao rescue teams at Bang Khla to investigate.
At the scene on Huasai-Buakhao Road, Moo 8, Huasai Subdistrict, Bang Khla District, a man was found face down in a pool of blood in the right lane. He was later identified as Mr. Thotsaphon Panya, 36. Nearby lay a Suzuki GSX 1000 big bike from Bangkok, overturned in the left lane on the opposite side.
Mr. Thanaphon, a local witness, said he saw a straw truck parked as if stuck and unable to proceed. Someone got out to cut some wires to allow the truck to pass. He later learned that two lighter motorcycles had fallen earlier after the cable was caught by the truck, but since those bikes were lighter, the falls were minor and the riders were mostly unharmed.
However, the deceased’s big bike was heavier, and his neck got caught on the fallen cable, causing a severe crash that he couldn't control. Before collapsing, he stood up unaware of his injury, ran across to the right lane for help, but collapsed face down in blood, having had a major artery struck by the cable around his neck.
The deceased’s employer said he had just parted from him at the Phra Phikanet Temple. Originally from Korat, the deceased worked locally, had met his girlfriend at the temple, and planned to marry on 20 February—just 10 days away. They never expected such a fatal accident.
Later, Bang Khla police reviewed CCTV footage along the route and arrested the straw truck driver responsible for cutting the cable and causing the accident.
During questioning, Mr. Surachet, 44, the straw truck driver, denied driving on the accident route, claiming he took another road. However, CCTV evidence proved his route, leading to his admission.
He confessed he drove the fully loaded straw truck from Lat Buakhao to Wang Sombun. At the accident spot, he saw tangled and low-hanging wires blocking the way, so he had an assistant use a stick to push the wires up to clear the truck’s path and crawled through slowly. He claimed he did not know how the wires came to catch the deceased’s bike, only that he pushed the wires up to avoid fire hazards to his vehicle.
The deceased’s girlfriend arrived at the hospital and tightly hugged his lifeless body, telling him to rest and go home. The heartbreaking scene struck the family deeply, occurring just 10 days before their wedding.
