Car Overtakes on Left, Hits Pedestrian Who Hits Light Pole and Falls into Drain Severely Injured

A car overtaking on the left struck a pedestrian, whose body was thrown against a light pole before falling into a drainage ditch, suffering severe injuries in front of the Thapthim Shrine in Bang Phli Yai Subdistrict. Officials urgently assisted and transported the victim to the hospital. The driver admitted he was rushing to work.

On 19 Mar 2026 GMT+7, in the early morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kandit Sikaewnamsai, an investigator at Bang Phli Police Station, received a report from the Bang Phli radio center about a car hitting a pedestrian who fell into water beside the road on Kingkaew Road outbound, in front of the Thapthim Shrine, heading toward Khlong Khut, Bang Phli Yai Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province. He, along with Ruamkatanyu Foundation and Bang Phli Hospital rescue team, went to investigate.

At the scene, they found a male victim in critical condition, unconscious, with large wounds on his face and lower torso submerged in water. Officials carefully rescued him from the drainage ditch, provided first aid, and rushed him to a nearby hospital. The victim was later identified as Mr. Supakit Kasaprasit, 26 years old.

At the scene, a white Toyota Yaris car registered in Bangkok was found. The driver was a 57-year-old Japanese man employed at a company. The front left side of the car showed collision marks, and the windshield was severely damaged.

Mr. Nat Wintachai, an emergency medical technician from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, said that after receiving the report, they immediately went to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the injured man lying on his back in the water, his head resting on the edge of the ditch, with his body submerged up to about his knees. He had large facial wounds. Witnesses said the victim was hit by the car, his body thrown against a utility pole before falling into the drainage ditch.

Footage from a good Samaritan’s dashboard camera clearly recorded the accident moment. The victim was walking in the left lane of the road when the offending car overtook another vehicle on the left and struck the pedestrian forcefully. This caused his body to be thrown against a utility pole and fall into the drainage ditch, resulting in severe injuries.

After inspecting the scene, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kandit Sikaewnamsai of Bang Phli Police Station summoned the Japanese man for questioning through an interpreter. The driver confessed that he was rushing to work and overtook on the left, hitting the pedestrian. He was initially charged with reckless driving causing injury, pending further investigation of the victim. The driver was released and will be summoned again once the victim’s condition improves.
