A Cambodian man was arrested near the Sa Kaeo border. Upon checking his phone, authorities found photos secretly taken of a ranger checkpoint. He is being tightly interrogated amid concerns he might be a BHQ spy. Initially, he claimed he took the photos casually.Just for fun.He also agreed to delete the photos, but authorities remain unconvinced.
On 7 April 2026, Burapha Task Force, through the Aranyaprathet Special Task Unit, assigned Colonel Pongsakorn Sueng-ngam, commander of Ranger Control Unit 12, to order Lieutenant Colonel Arkom Mongkornnam, commander of Ranger Company 1201, to deploy personnel from Company 1201 to patrol and prevent illegal border crossings along agricultural routes leading to natural pathways on the northern side of Rong Kluea Market, at the end of Dong Ngu Village, Village No.7, Pa Rai Subdistrict, Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province.
They discovered and apprehended two suspicious Cambodian men carrying backpacks, walking along the agricultural path intending to illegally cross the border into Cambodia through natural routes. Upon questioning, they identified themselves as Mr. Aong Sari, 41, from Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, holding an expired local border pass, and Mr. Sok Salek, 29, from Ta Keo Province, Cambodia, without a passport but holding a local ID card. Both claimed to be working illegally at Rong Kluea Market and were returning home to Cambodia.
Authorities grew suspicious because Mr. Sok Salek is from Ta Keo Province, a Cambodian border province adjacent to Vietnam, which is far from this border area. They questioned why he was working in Rong Kluea Market. Consequently, both were detained for questioning and had records taken at Ranger Company 1201, Border Patrol Police Unit 20, Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint, Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province.
Upon inspecting their mobile phones, authorities found that Mr. Aong Sari had secretly taken photos of the ranger checkpoint and natural border routes on the Aranyaprathet side of Sa Kaeo Province. Fears arose that he might be a BHQ spy from Cambodia infiltrating Thailand to gather secrets to send back to Cambodia. They were therefore taken for intensive interrogation. Both men denied being spies, claiming the photos of the ranger checkpoint and natural routes were taken just for fun and consented to delete all images.
However, authorities remain skeptical of their claims and have handed them over to investigators at Khlong Luek Police Station, Sa Kaeo Province, to proceed with legal action and further investigate the purpose behind secretly photographing the ranger checkpoint and natural border routes.
